The Short Version

Privacy Scanner does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data. Everything happens locally on your Mac. There is no cloud, no analytics, no tracking, and no accounts.

What Privacy Scanner Does

Privacy Scanner scans files on your Mac for exposed personal data (PII), metadata, AI-generated content markers, and sensitive content. All scanning and processing happens entirely on your device using native macOS frameworks.

Data Collection

We collect no data whatsoever. Specifically:

• No personal information is collected, stored, or transmitted.
• No file contents leave your Mac. All scanning is performed locally.
• No analytics or telemetry are collected. We have no analytics SDK.
• No crash reports are automatically sent (unless you opt in via macOS system settings).
• No network connections are made by the app. Privacy Scanner has no network entitlement.
• No accounts are required. There is no sign-up, login, or user profile.

File Access

Privacy Scanner accesses files only when you explicitly select them via the macOS file picker (NSOpenPanel) or drag and drop. The app uses macOS App Sandbox and security-scoped bookmarks. It cannot access any files without your explicit permission.

Sensitive Content Analysis

Content safety scanning uses Apple's built-in Sensitive Content Analysis (SCA) framework. This runs entirely on-device as part of macOS. No images are uploaded or shared with any service — including Apple.

In-App Purchase

Privacy Scanner offers a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not see, store, or have access to your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs the purchase transaction.

Scan History

Scan results are stored locally on your Mac in ~/Library/Application Support/PrivacyScanner/ as a JSON file. This data never leaves your device. You can delete it at any time by removing the folder.

Third-Party Services

Privacy Scanner uses no third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks beyond Apple's native macOS frameworks (SwiftUI, PDFKit, AVFoundation, ImageIO, SensitiveContentAnalysis).

Children's Privacy

Privacy Scanner does not collect data from anyone, including children. The app is rated 4+ on the Mac App Store.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page with the new date. Given that we collect no data, changes are unlikely.
